Tito Vilanova was back in the Barcelona dugout on Sunday for the first time since his operation to remove a tumour on his Parotid gland. The manager got a fantastic reception from the home crowd at the Nou camp, but he had already ststed that his treatment was ongoing and he would not be taking back total control from his assistant Jordi Roura.
That has become even more clear today after it was announced that Vilanova will not be on the bench tomorrow for the cup game against Cordoba. He will not even be in Spain, as he is flying to America to get some expert medical advice about his condition.
Despite the treatment being a success, including his reaction to the follow up treatment, Vilanova is concerned because the same thing happened a year ago, when he was first diagnosed. He recovered completely then, but the cancer came back. He obviously wants to know if there is an underlying cause, or if there is anything he can do to help prevent another recurrence.
Everybody connected with FC Barcelona and football will be wishing Tito all the best, and hoping that he can put this behind him once and for all. Barca are already two goals up from the first leg against Cordoba, so it will be a miracle if they fail to progress in the Copa Del Rey at the Nou Camp tomorrow.
