Malaga highlight Barcelona problems BUT Suarez looks sharp!! 0

Posted on September 26, 2014 by admin

With their two main La Liga rivals having a slow start, Barcelona were able to open up an early gap at the top of the Spanish league table. But it is very early days and nobody was getting too excited, because the performances were still a bit patchy and it was clear that the new manager Luis Enrique had plenty of work to do.

That was highlighted by the midweek game at Malaga. The Andalucians deserve a lot of credit for their draw, as they were very organised and worked tirelessly to close the Barca players down. And they forged the better chances, but the old Barcelona would have dominated the game more and created much more.

Why Barcelona MUST celebrate if they win La Liga 0

I have been reading reports that FC Barcelona are not planning any big celebrations for this season, even though they have their destiny in their own hands and just need to win today to retain the title of champions of Spain. But this is ridiculous.

In fact, the Catalans should possibly view this trophy as the best, because it was the hardest to come by. With all the problems and twists in this landmark season, for Barcelona to finish it as champions, ahead of the two Champions League finalists from Madrid, would be pretty amazing.

Barcelona lose Xavi for crucial clash with Celta Vigo 0

Barcelona know that the famous derby win over Real Madrid on Sunday will probably count for nothing more than bragging rights unless they continue in that form and retain their La Liga crown. So it is not good news that they face a crucial game against Celta Vigo without the brilliant and experienced Xavi Hernandez in the squad, according to Mundo Deportivo.

At least the game is at the Nou Camp, where the crowd will be a huge help as they celebrate the victory over arch rivals Real Madrid. Tata Martino is expected to go even more attacking than usual in the absence of Xavi, so it is likely to be a central three of Iniesta, Busquets and Fabregas.

New Barcelona contract to inspire Iniesta against Getafe 0

Posted on December 22, 2013 by admin

There may have been some concern among Barcelona fans about the future of star midfield magician Andres Iniesta this season. There have been stories in the Spanish and English media about him possibly leaving as contract talks were taking longer than expected and Premier League clubs like Manchester United and City were linked with a possible transfer bid.

Meanwhile, Iniesta was not playing quite at the top of his form and even sat on the bench in a few important games. But Barcelona fans can relax, because the 29-year old has this week committed his future to Barcelona by signing a new three year extension which will now run until 2018. BY that time he will be 34-years old, but if he looks after himself that should be no problem and is becoming much more common in modern football.

Barcelona need top form for Man City in Champions League 0

Posted on December 16, 2013 by admin

A lot can happen between now and February, but everyone concerned with FC Barcelona must be pretty glad that the next phase of the Champions League is a couple of months away, after drawing arguably the toughest side in the draw for the knockout stage.

Manchester City have just beaten Bayern Munich in the Allianz arena and followed it up with a 6-3 victory over the Premier League leaders Arsenal. I would probably say that Arsenal, because of their form this season and their experience in Europe, would have been the worst team to draw, but City’s mega rich owners have assembled a squad of superstars, including former Barca man Yaya Toure, who we should never have let go.

Xavi trains to ease Barcelona injury crisis for Granada 0

It never rains but it pours they say, and it has been chucking it down at FC Barcelona recently. With the Club already having to cope without the hugely important Lionel Messi, probably for the rest of the year at least, the last thing Tata Martino needed was any more players picking up injuries during the international break.

But that is just what has happened, and it leaves the Barcelona first team looking a bit threadbare. From the main starting XI from last season, Jordi Alba and Messi are unavailable long term and have now been joined by Victor Valdes, Dani Alves, Cristian Tello, Afellay and Dos Santos.

Barcelona suffer more injury problems…. 0

Barca’s Injury Woes Intensify

Barcelona have revealed that they could be without Xavi and Cristian Tello as well as Lionel Messi for the game against Granada.

Tests have shown that playmaker, Xavi, has picked up a hamstring muscle strain while winger, Tello, suffered ankle ligament damage in training.

The current La Liga leaders are already without World Player of the Year, Messi, who was ruled out for up to eight weeks after tearing a leg muscle in the recent 4-1 victory at Real Betis.

Barcelona reeling as Xavi and Valdes add to Messi injury problems 0

Posted on November 20, 2013 by admin

Tata Martino must be cursing the international break this morning. Half his Barcelona team have had to undergo various long and exhausting journeys, and all for pointless friendlies. The boss already had the aserious problem of having to cope without the team talisman and goal machine Lionel Messi, and now it looks like Xavi Hernandez and Victor Valdes have picked up injuries.

The keeper is the most worrying, as Barcelona do have options in midfield. Fabregas and Iniesta can easily play for the next few games, another sign that the new manager’s insistence on regular rotation is a good idea. None of the players have been overused and so they will be fine to play all the time for a while.
