Atletico Madrid vs. Barcelona Super Cup Preview 0

Posted on August 21, 2013 by admin

Tonight Tata Martino takes his Barcelona players to the Vicente Calderon stadium in Madrid to play Diego Simeone’s Atletico in the first leg of the Spanish super cup. Although the teams involved often describe this first trophy of the season, there is no doubt that they would all prefer to win it rather than lose it.

Simeone has already tried to suggest that it means more to Barcelona and that the Spanish champions are under pressure because they are expected to win it. Just by saying that, the Atletico manager has revealed that he is actually very keen to win it himself. Martino. on the other hand, is not hiding the fact that he is trying his best to win his first trophy with Barcelona and has told his players he expects them to win and he will pick his strongest side.

Barcelona could regret selling Villa to Atletico rather than Arsenal or Tottenham 0

I know that Barcelona were overloaded with forward players, especially after the arrival of our new Brazilian superstar Neymar from Santos, but I have a feeling that the club may regret selling David Villa to one of the strongest teams in La Liga.

Atletico Madrid have completed the transfer of the 31-year old striker for next to nothing. Barca will get an initial fee of around £2 million, which will be little help in paying for the central defender we desperately need. Villa’s substantial wages will be useful in paying whoever comes in obviously, but I don’t understand why Barcelona let him go to Atletico for so little after some tough negotiating with Arsenal and Tottenham.

Barcelona hoping for swap deal with Rooney, Thiago and Villa 0

The prospect of losing Thiago Alcantara is not one that anyone at Barcelona wants to see happen, but if the latest report from the English media has got any truth to it, the Spanish champions could have reason to smile about the transfer after all.

At the same time as the new Manchester United manager David Moyes has been trying to complete the transfer of 22-year old Thiago from the Nou Camp, he has been trying to persuade the 27-year old England international to commit his future to Old Trafford. There has been talk of Rooney leaving the English champions ever since his reputation with Ferguson started to deteriorate during last season.

Barcelona have big problem with transfer of David Villa 0

It looks like Barcelona have got themselves into a bit of a sticky situation with the Spanish record goal scorer David Villa. The 31-year old has just a year left on his contract with Barca, so the club want to sell him this summer to recoup some transfer money to be able to put towards the transfer of Thiago Silva from PSG.

That is not going to be as easy as first thought, however. According to the Spanish newspaper AS, Villa has a clause in his contract that means his wages are set to rise in the final year. Apparently, his annual salary is due to go from €7 million to €11 million, which is an extra 75,000 a week.

FC Barcelona could be about to rescue Torres from Chelsea 0

Posted on June 13, 2013 by admin

If body language and facial expression is anything to go by, Fernando Torres has not been happy for some time. Barcelona could be about to change all that by bringing him back to Spain and giving his career the fresh start it seems to need.

Ever since his move from Liverpool to Chelsea in 2011, the Spanish international has cut a forlorn figure. Even this season, when his form had improved and he scored 22 goals, some of them very important for the club, he has not looked comfortable. It does not take much for the Chelsea fans to get on his back, so it seems he will never be popular at the club.

Villa could still stay at Barcelona after Malaga game 0

Posted on June 03, 2013 by admin

Barcelon signed off their final La Liga game of the season in fine style, blasting past Manuel Pellegrini’s Malaga 4-1. There was some fantastic skill on show at the Nou Camp, and much of it came from two players whose futures are thought to be less than secure at the club, Cesc Fabregas and David Villa.

Villa to leave Barcelona with Arsenal favourites to sign him 0

The arrival at Barcelona this week of the young Brazilian striker Neymar from Santos was the final nail in the coffin for David Villa and his career at the Nou Camp. It is a real shame that we did not see the best of him due to the injury he picked up playing in the Club World Cup in Japan at the beginning of 2012. That injury nearly ended his career, but he has recovered and is still a top transfer target, especially as Barca only want around £12 million for him.

Barcelona one game away La Liga from points record 0

Although neither team really had much to play for the derby between FC Barcelona and Espanyol is always fiercely contested. It was given extra spice this week after a Barcelona shirt was hung on a local landmark. The Espanyol players also formed a guard of honour for the champions, while hoping to spoil the party.

Barcelona were not about to let that happen though, and dominated the game throughout. The 2-0 scoreline could have been worse for the home side if David Villa had packed his shooting boots, but in the end it didn’t really matter. He was involved in the build up to the opening goal from Alexis, who showed fantastic close control and finishing. (see highlights below).
