FC Barcelona in mourning for tragic death of Tito 0

Posted on April 26, 2014 by admin

If fans of Barcelona have been suffering lately because of the problems on the football pitch, the news that broke yesterday of the tragic death of Tito Vilanova has put it all in perspective. Football is just a game and the club motto, Mas Que un Club, could not be more evocative of anyone but Tito.

He was part of the Barca family and was dearly loved by all of the players, past and present. He finally lost his battle with throat cancer at the tender age of 45, leaving a wife and two children, one of whom is currently at the Barcelona academy. The club and players are devastated, even though it had been coming for some time, and there have been countless messages of condolence and support for his family, as well as tributes to the man.

Song says he is happy and is NOT leaving Barcelona 0

Posted on December 10, 2013 by admin

Ever since he joined Barcelona from Arsenal in the Premier League over a year ago, there have been stories in the media, both English and Spanish, about Alex Song being unhappy and unsettled at his new La Liga club. And last week they surfaced again, with suggestions that the Cameroon international could be heading back to England in the January transfer window.

The reasons given are usually that he is not playing enough, and with Sergio Busquets in front of him for his favoured position, he did struggle to break into the first team under Tito Vilanova last season. But he did finish the season with 34 appearances, although many were as a sub.

SHOCK snub for former Barcelona boss Tito 0

Posted on October 29, 2013 by admin

We saw on Saturday, in the build up to Barcelona’s victory in the first El Clasico of the season, the statement `Firca Tito` spelled out in the Nou Camp stands, a reminder, if we needed it, that Barcelona is a club that stands by it’s own. To be fair, the unlucky Tito Vilanove is hard to forget, having been forced to srep down from his post as manager of Barca just this summer.

It seems that the memory of people at FIFA is a lot shorter, though. Because although Vilanova managed to beat Jose Mourinho and Real Madrid to win La Liga in his debut season as a full manager, he has not been included on the shortlist of coaches for the prestigious Ballon D’Or awards.

Barcelona’s new star Neymar needs special treatment for Anemia 0

Barcelona have had much more than their fair share of problems with illness and injury over the last few years, most notably with the liver transplant of Eric Abidal and the ongoing cancer problems that have eventually forced Tito Vilanova to retire from his position as Barcelona manager after just one season.

Hopefully, the new Brazilian striker Neymar will not have problems as serious as that, but he is already suffering his second problem since signing from Santos earlier in the summer. The 21-year old has already undergone an operation to remove his tonsils after the Confederations Cup triumph in Brazil.

Neymar happy to play second fiddle to Messi as Santos arrive for Gamper Trophy 0

Neymar made his Barcelona debut against Lechia Warsaw this week, although he did not see too many minutes in the second half and was not alongside Lionel Messi on the pitch. We could see a lot more of him tomorrow, though, when his former club Santos come to the Nou Camp for the annual Joan Gamper trophy.

Neymar is understandably looking forward to his home debut for Barca against his former team mates. The 21-year old has also insisted that he will treat the game as if it was a properly competitive match, saying that he will play with the same intensity as if it was the Champions League final.

Transfer blow for Man Utd as Martino insists Fabregas stays at Barcelona 0

Posted on July 26, 2013 by admin

The team mates of Cesc Fabregas, Tirto Vilanova and the player himself have said plenty of times that he was staying at FC Barcelona, amid rumours of a possible move back to his former club Arsenal or their Premier League rivals Manchester United. David Moyes did not seem to believe them, however, and has made two bids of £25 million and £30 million to test the waters.

That seemed to ba that after they were rejected, but the United manager was like a dog with a bone. The news of Tito’s illness forcing him to resign as the manager of Barcelona seemed to offer Moyes fresh hope, but that has been quickly extinguished by the 50-year old Argentinean Gerardo Martino.

Man Utd will not take NO for an answer on Barcelona’s Fabregas 0

There is no reason to believe that Either FC Barcelona or Cesc Fabregas have changed their minds, but Manchester United seem to be hoping for something, because they have already had two offers for the midfielder rejected and are planning a third.

Neither Barca not Fabregas have given any indication that an improved offer would be met with any more success. On the contrary, it has been made clear that the 26-year old wants to stay at his boyhood club. His Spanish international team mate, Gerard Pique, used to play for United, and he has informed his former club that they are wasting their time bidding for Cesc.

Martino or Enrique to be new manager of FC Barcelona 0

Posted on July 21, 2013 by admin

Everybody concerned with FC Barcelona has been shaken by the news that Tito Vilanova is having to retire as the club’s manager as the throat cancer that he has already fought off twice has returned. Tito will have an operation next week, and everyone will be hoping for another successful procedure, but the clock is ticking and Barcelona need to appoint a new manager as quickly as possible.

There have been a number of names doing the rounds, including Michael Laudrup after his success with Swansea in the Premier League, but two clear favourites have emerged from the pack, and they are the former Barca player Luis Enrique, and the Argentinean manager of Newell’s Old Boys, Gerard `Tata` Martino.
