Barcelona rotation continues with Fabregas replacing Xavi against Ajax 0

Posted on September 18, 2013 by admin

One of the most notable features of the new Barcelona manager’s reign has been his willingness, and even insistence on rotating some of his key players. So early in the season, none of the Barca players are in immediate danger of suffering any fatigue or burnout, but Tata Martino knows there is a long season ahead.

Also, it is better for the team to get used to being rested occasionally, so it is no surprise to hear that Tata is planning to drop Xavi Hernandez back to the bench for tonight’s Champions League opening game against Ajax Amsterdam at the Camp Nou. Cesc Fabregas will replace the 33-year old, which is good news for the former Arsenal man who apparently felt he was overlooked for the important games last season.

The new manager of FC Barcelona, Tata Martino, will have his first chance to look at his players during a game tonight, as the club takes on the Norwegian club Valerenga in Oslo. It is only the second friendly game of pre-season, and the bulk of first team players will still be missing, but Martino will be looking forward to it and hoping for a better result than the 2-0 defeat suffered against the German and European champions Bayern Munich in midweek.

Tello signs new contract to keep him at Barcelona but Thiago is leaving 0

The recent situation that Barcelona have faced with Thiago Alcantara could also have happened with another of the club’s stars of the future, Cristian Tello. The contract situation and release clauses involved with the players who come up through the famous La Masia academy must be sorted out, but it seems like it is too late to do anything about Thiago.

Barcelona may lose Thiago but give new contract to his brother Rafinha 0

There appears to be very little that the officials and executives at FC Barcelona can do to stop Thiago Alcantara from accepting a transfer away from the Nou Camp, with Manchester United reportedly about to sign the 22-year old star of the recent under 21 Euro Championship, but they will certainly learn from their mistake and will not want to let it happen again.

Barcelona must score an away goal at PSG 0

Barcelona play the first leg of the Champions League tie against Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes tonight, and they are determined to avoid the pressure that they put themselves under in the last round. The turnaround against AC Milan at the Nou camp was magnificent, but was always in danger because of Barca failing to score an away goal.

Towards the end against Milan, the Italian side had a few scoring chances which would have been a disaster, and it was not until Jordi Alba scored at the end that the result was secured. We must avoid that happening again, and the best way to do that is to score a goal tonight.

Messi makes history as Barcelona draw at Celta Vigo 0

Posted on March 30, 2013 by admin

Despite having taken the Barcelona training session yesterday, Tito Vilanova was not in the dugout for the trip to Celta Vigo. He did pick the team, however, and obviously had the game against Paris Saint-Germain on his mind. David Villa, Iniesta, Busquets and Mascherano were on the bench, while injury and suspension meant that Puyol, Xavi, Alba and Valdes were unavailable. That meant a much weakened side, with some young players getting the chance to impress.

Starting Line Up;
Alves, Bartra, Pique, Montoya
Song, Thiago, Fabregas
Alexis, Messi, Tello

Will Barcelona sell Villa to Arsenal or Athletico? 2

Barcelona fans love David Villa, partly because of how he has fit into the club since his move from Valencia in the summer of 2010. His 23 goals during that first season at Barca included a fantastic curling shot that ensured victory over Manchester United in the champions league final. We also won La Liga and went on to lift the Spanish Supercup against Real Madrid and the club world cup.

Barcelona gave their coach, Tito Vilanova, the perfect tonic to aid his recovery yesterdayn with an easy 3-1 victory away against Valladolid. Vilanova underwent surgery to remove a cancerous tumour last week and so Jordi Roura was stand in coach for the game, and until Vilanova can take charge again. The operation went well and he is already out of hospital, but his players were obviously keen on giving him a further boost before the short winter break.
