Although the president, manager and players of FC Barcelona have tried before and vowed to keep trying, it appears that Victor Valdes will not change his mind about seeing out his current contract and leaving the Nou Camp next summer. The Spanish international stopper restated his position in an interview this week and insisted that he and his family would be in another country this time next year.
FC Barcelona have known for some time that Victor Valdes wants to leave the club and will not sign an extension to his current deal that ends next summer. The president Sandro Rosell and the manager Tito Vilanova have tried and failed to change his mind, so a new keeper is a must, sooner or later.
Although Valdes has promised to see out his contract before leaving, the club does not want to be in such a precarious position, so the scouting and transfer people have been looking at replacements, and are ready to move at the drop of a hat, with two players firmly in their thoughts.
The Brazilian striker and global star Neymar was unveiled to the Barcelona fans at the Camp Nou yesterday, but the Catalan club are far from finished in the summer transfer window. There is a common belief that it is at the other end of the pitch to the one that Neymar plays in, where Barca will be doing the most business.
Two of the players most heavily linked with a summer signing, though, have denied that they are planning to move, although in modern football this does not necessarily mean they won’t.
Ever since the news broke that Victor Valdes has declined a new contract with Barcelona, there have been rumours and reports about who would be the new number one at the Nou Camp and when they would be coming. Some thought that Barca would move quickly and sign a new keeper in January, but Valdes has not demanded an instant move, just said that he wants to try somewhere else before his career ends.
