Why Barcelona MUST celebrate if they win La Liga 0

Posted on May 17, 2014 by admin

I have been reading reports that FC Barcelona are not planning any big celebrations for this season, even though they have their destiny in their own hands and just need to win today to retain the title of champions of Spain. But this is ridiculous.

In fact, the Catalans should possibly view this trophy as the best, because it was the hardest to come by. With all the problems and twists in this landmark season, for Barcelona to finish it as champions, ahead of the two Champions League finalists from Madrid, would be pretty amazing.

Barcelona boosted for cup final by Ronaldo injury 0

FC Barcelona have enough problems on their hands without having to deal with Cristiano Ronaldo, so Tata Martino and his players will have received the injury update from Carlo Ancelotti with open arms. Ronaldo is still out of action with what is being reported as tendonitis or a muscular problem in the thigh.

Andres Iniesta and other Barcelona players have refused, publicly at least, to accept that Real Madrid will be significantly weakened by this, as they have the likes of Isco, Di Mari and Morata who could take his place, but they must be pretty glad of the news really.

Atletico loss means Barcelona can regain lead of La Liga at Sevilla 0

Posted on February 09, 2014 by admin

When Barcelona suffered a shock defeat at home to Valencia last week, it saw them slip off the top of the Spanish La Liga table for the first time in months and, with Real Madrid and their city rivals Atletico seemingly in relentless form (winning games even when playing badly) it seemed like it might be a hard task to get that top spot back.

But a spot of luck has given Barca the chance to bounce back at the first opportunity. Atletico travelled to relegation strugglers Almeria but were below par and ended up losing 2-0. To be fair to them, the referee was abysmal and should have given them two penalties and sent two Almeria players off, but all that matters now is that we take advantage of their slip.

Barcelona transfer news – Chelsea’s Luiz for £30m? 0

Posted on January 15, 2014 by admin

There was all sorts of transfer speculation in the summer concerning Barcelona and their need to sign a top quality centre back. Plenty of players were linked with a move to the Nou Camp, but apparently the club did not see the need as desperate, because nobody was signed.

The first choice was Thiago Silva of PSG, but the Brazilian international ended up signing a new contract with the mega rich French champions. The noises coming our of Barcelona after that was that they were not going to sign a player just for the sake of it.

Puyol and Alves to make Barcelona returns in Copa Del Rey 0

Posted on December 17, 2013 by admin

The Barcelona manager can pretty much do whatever he wants tonight. With Cartagena coming to the Nou Camp for the second leg of the cup clash already 4-1 behind from the first leg, Tata Martino has the luxury of resting players, but it is the players who will play that are making the news.

It seems as if club captain Carles Puyol and first choice right back Dani Alves will both make their comebacks from injury tonight. Hopefully they will both gain the match sharpness they need to be considered for the more important La Liga games to come.

Barcelona reeling as Xavi and Valdes add to Messi injury problems 0

Tata Martino must be cursing the international break this morning. Half his Barcelona team have had to undergo various long and exhausting journeys, and all for pointless friendlies. The boss already had the aserious problem of having to cope without the team talisman and goal machine Lionel Messi, and now it looks like Xavi Hernandez and Victor Valdes have picked up injuries.

The keeper is the most worrying, as Barcelona do have options in midfield. Fabregas and Iniesta can easily play for the next few games, another sign that the new manager’s insistence on regular rotation is a good idea. None of the players have been overused and so they will be fine to play all the time for a while.

Messi frustrated but Fabregas and Alexis help Barcelona march on 0

Towards the end of the game last night when Barcelona were playing away against Celta Vigo, the result was assured, but Lionel Messi was clearly in the mood to get his name on the scoresheet after a frustrating time recently with injury and getting back his match sharpness.

Barcelona and Real Madrid have selection headache for El Clasico 0

Posted on October 25, 2013 by admin

The first El Clasico of the season is upon us, and both FC Barcelona and the fierce rivals Real Madrid go into the game with managers who will be experiencing it for the first time. Both Tata Martino and his opposite number will be in no doubt about the importance of the game, though, and they will both be desperate to draw first blood.

Both bosses have been brought in and have tried to alter the team’s approach a little, with Tata trying to make Barca a bit more direct at times. Having said that, the game will probably still be a bit of a clash of styles. Barcelona are likely to dominate possession as usual, while Madrid will be more physical and will try to hit us on the counter.
