Barcelona lose Xavi for crucial clash with Celta Vigo 0

Posted on March 26, 2014 by admin

Barcelona know that the famous derby win over Real Madrid on Sunday will probably count for nothing more than bragging rights unless they continue in that form and retain their La Liga crown. So it is not good news that they face a crucial game against Celta Vigo without the brilliant and experienced Xavi Hernandez in the squad, according to Mundo Deportivo.

At least the game is at the Nou Camp, where the crowd will be a huge help as they celebrate the victory over arch rivals Real Madrid. Tata Martino is expected to go even more attacking than usual in the absence of Xavi, so it is likely to be a central three of Iniesta, Busquets and Fabregas.

With Messi missing Barcelona boosted by Sanchez double downing England 0

Alexis Sanchez has been looking like the real deal for Barcelona again this season, after a disappointing campaign in La Liga last time, and he carried that through onto the international stage as he inspired Chile to a convincing victory over Roy Hodgson’s makeshift England side at Wembley.

Alexis pounced with almost the first attack of the game from Chile. His speed and determination were key elements as he burst forward and got in front of the left back to head past Celtic’s keeper Forster who he had been praising this week. The 24-year old went on to be the stand out performer and was rightly voted as the Man of the Match.

Messi admits he’s not fit but Pedro backs him to star for Barcelona 0

Because Lionel Messi is such a fantastic player, and because Barcelona base all of their playing style around him, even when he is not fully fit, he usually plays. The player himself has admitted that he not firing on all cylinders, but believes that as he keeps playing, he will gain that full 100 percent match sharpness and get back to his best.

Messi was not very influential at all as Barca toiled to a 1-0 victory over local rivals Espanyol on Friday, but Messi does not believe that the fans have anything to worry about, as he declared via social media while celebrating the first birthday of his son Thiago on Saturday.

If PSG want Pedro, Barcelona should do swap deal for Thiago Silva 1

There is a transfer rumour going around about Barcelona being contacted by the French champions PSG over a possible £40 million offer for our Spanish international striker and winger Pedro Rodriguez Ledesma, commonly known by his first name.

The Barca president Sandro Rosell has denied that any offer has been made, but that does not mean that PSG are not interested. If there is firm interest from PSG, it might just be the only way in which Barca could finally get their main transfer target of the summer.

Martino has Neymar and Messi fitness concerns at Barcelona 0

Posted on August 16, 2013 by admin

Just at the time when FC Barcelona need all their best players fit and ready for a frantic start to the season, Tata Martino the manager is being faced with a bit of a selection nightmare. The problem is made wors because of the two-legged Spanish Supercup against Atletico Madrid. That means that the club face five tough games in the first couple of weeks.

There is still a doubt over the fitness of the best player in the world Lionel Messi, so I am sure that Martino will not risk him until he is fully fit. That is one of the reasons that Barcelona pushed through the transfer of the young Brazilian star Neymar from Santos this summer.

Messi, Fabregas and Pedro injury doubts for Barcelona’s La Liga start 0

Posted on August 14, 2013 by admin

Tata Nartino will want to get his first la Liga campaign with FC Barcelona off to a flying start against Levante at the Nou Camp this weekend. It is a game that Barca would normally be expected to win easily, but there are some reasons for caution, and the new manager will be crossing all his fingers today and hoping that no more of his players pick up injuries in the international games.

Martino delighted as Neymar opens Barcelona goal account 0

Posted on August 08, 2013 by admin

After his big move to FC Barcelona this summer, followed by a Player of the Tournament award as Brazil lifted the Confederations Cup, Neymar’s head must have been spinning recently. Add to that an operation and the discovery that the 21-year old is suffering from anaemia, and you could forgive Neymar for being a bit off colour.

The new Barcelona striker will, therefore, be delighted and relieved to get off the mark with his new club. Having been floored by the ball hitting him in the face from the keeper’s clearance, Neymar picked himself up to score the first of seven Barcelona goals against Thailand in yesterday’s pre-season friendly.

Barcelona one game away La Liga from points record 0

Although neither team really had much to play for the derby between FC Barcelona and Espanyol is always fiercely contested. It was given extra spice this week after a Barcelona shirt was hung on a local landmark. The Espanyol players also formed a guard of honour for the champions, while hoping to spoil the party.

Barcelona were not about to let that happen though, and dominated the game throughout. The 2-0 scoreline could have been worse for the home side if David Villa had packed his shooting boots, but in the end it didn’t really matter. He was involved in the build up to the opening goal from Alexis, who showed fantastic close control and finishing. (see highlights below).
