Barcelona MUST take advantage of Costa injury 0

Posted on April 01, 2014 by admin

The Champions League draw threw up a clash between the top two teams in La Liga, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, which many think will be the tie of the round. And the fact that Diego Simeone’s team play the second leg at their home ground gives them a slight advantage, with the Vicente Calderon being a notoriously hard place to go.

So Barcelona must make the most of the injury that Madrid’s powerful and prolific striker Diego Costa picked up in training yesterday. The Brazilian born forward would have caused Barca a major problem, especially without the unlucky Victor Valdes who is out for the season.

Sociedad fired up for La Liga revenge against FC Barcelona 0

FC Barcelona will be expecting to have to beat Real Sociedad today to retain their place at the top of La Liga, because Real Madrid have the much easier task of a home game against Elche. Barcelona can expect a tough away match, with the Sociedad manager, players and fans seeking revenge for what they see as a very unfair game at the Nou Camp recently.

Barcelona stars bite back at Man City sour grapes 0

Barcelona have got one foot in the quarter-finals of the Champions League after an exciting and hard fought game away to Manchester City ended in a 2-0 win thanks to goals from Lionel Messi and Dani Alves. But the night was spoiled somewhat by the City manager claiming that the referee was biased and had basically gifted the game to Barcelona.

Barcelona go full strength to ensure place in Copa Del Rey final 0

The fact that Barcelona have not lost a game by more than one goal all season is a pretty incredible stat and should give Tata Martino and his players a great deal of confidence for tomorrow. But the Barca boss is taking no chances and is set to name his strongest possible starting XI.

The second leg of the Copa Del Rey semi-final against Real Sociedad should see the new manager book a place in the final of a major competition at the first time of asking. I’m not including the Spanish Supercup victory over Atletico Madrid because Martino was not in charge to qualify for that.

5-star Barcelona book Copa Del Rey semi-final spot(with video) 0

The result of this two legged tie was almost settled in the favour of Barcelona in the first leg at Levante, but the Spanish champions made absolutely sure with a professional and ruthless performance at the Nou Camp last night. The weather was awful, but the team warmed the home fans up with five goals and a place in the Copa Del Rey semi-finals.

The opponents in that semi will probably be Real Sociedad and they must be wondering if they have any chance at all after Barcelona won 5-1 without Messi and made the aggregate score 9-2 against decent La Liga opponents. Messi was rested and Alexis Sanchez was given a chance to shine in the middle. He grabbed it with both hands and scored a nice brace.

New Barcelona contract to inspire Iniesta against Getafe 0

There may have been some concern among Barcelona fans about the future of star midfield magician Andres Iniesta this season. There have been stories in the Spanish and English media about him possibly leaving as contract talks were taking longer than expected and Premier League clubs like Manchester United and City were linked with a possible transfer bid.

Meanwhile, Iniesta was not playing quite at the top of his form and even sat on the bench in a few important games. But Barcelona fans can relax, because the 29-year old has this week committed his future to Barcelona by signing a new three year extension which will now run until 2018. BY that time he will be 34-years old, but if he looks after himself that should be no problem and is becoming much more common in modern football.

Barcelona need top form for Man City in Champions League 0

A lot can happen between now and February, but everyone concerned with FC Barcelona must be pretty glad that the next phase of the Champions League is a couple of months away, after drawing arguably the toughest side in the draw for the knockout stage.

Manchester City have just beaten Bayern Munich in the Allianz arena and followed it up with a 6-3 victory over the Premier League leaders Arsenal. I would probably say that Arsenal, because of their form this season and their experience in Europe, would have been the worst team to draw, but City’s mega rich owners have assembled a squad of superstars, including former Barca man Yaya Toure, who we should never have let go.

Rumours of Iniesta unrest at Barcelona lead to Man Utd transfer talk!! 0

There have been rumours and speculation in the Spanish and British press all season about the Barcelona midfield star Andres Iniesta. The fact that the man who scored the winning goal in the World Cup final for Spain is yet to put pen to paper on a new contract with the Catalan club has encouraged the interest and it seems that some of Europe’s top clubs are taking an interest in the situation.
