Busquets signs new contract keeping him at Barcelona until 2018 0

Posted on August 27, 2013 by admin

One of the most important members of the playing staff at FC Barcelona, and one of the hardest to replace, is the 25-year old midfield lynchpin Sergio Busquets. So it is great news that the club has tied him down with a new contract that will keep him at the Nou Camp for the next five years.

Busquets was born on the outskirts of Barcelona and joined the youth academy at La Masia before going on to play for one season with the Barcelona B team. That season was the same one in which Pep Guardiola managed the side and they won the third division title together. Both then moved on to the senior team and the rest is history, with an avalanche of trophies following, including two Champions League victories.

Martino or Enrique to be new manager of FC Barcelona 0

Posted on July 21, 2013 by admin

Everybody concerned with FC Barcelona has been shaken by the news that Tito Vilanova is having to retire as the club’s manager as the throat cancer that he has already fought off twice has returned. Tito will have an operation next week, and everyone will be hoping for another successful procedure, but the clock is ticking and Barcelona need to appoint a new manager as quickly as possible.

There have been a number of names doing the rounds, including Michael Laudrup after his success with Swansea in the Premier League, but two clear favourites have emerged from the pack, and they are the former Barca player Luis Enrique, and the Argentinean manager of Newell’s Old Boys, Gerard `Tata` Martino.

Barcelona boost after Tito claims Messi is fitter than ever 1

There are still quite a few absentees, mainly caused by international commitments over the summer, but the squad of FC Barcelona are back in training. Yesterday was mainly taken up with medical tests, but there was a bit of training done, and that training continued today.

The most notable thing, for Tito Vilanova, was the condition of the best player in the world Lionel Messi. The Barca boss says that he has never seen the Argentinean international striker in better shape at the start of pre-season, which bodes well for the season to come in La Liga and the Champions League, but will not be welcomed by the likes of Real Madrid and the top clubs around Europe.

Bayern have not signed Barcelona star…..YET 0

After media reports in Spain and Germany have claimed that Thiago Alcantara has already joined the former Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola at Bayern Munich, the German club’s sporting director Matthias Sammer has made a statement denying that any deal has been done, although he did not try to hide the fact that the 23-year old midfielder was a prime transfer target for the Bundesliga champions.

Sammer said, “Why would we not talk about it already if we had something signed? Naturally, this is not the case.”

Tello signs new contract to keep him at Barcelona but Thiago is leaving 0

The recent situation that Barcelona have faced with Thiago Alcantara could also have happened with another of the club’s stars of the future, Cristian Tello. The contract situation and release clauses involved with the players who come up through the famous La Masia academy must be sorted out, but it seems like it is too late to do anything about Thiago.

Guardiola attack on Barcelona president Rosell 0

The next game that Barcelona are due to play is a friendly against Bayern Munich in Germany on July 24th, just less than two weeks from today. The arrangement of the pre-season game probably had quite a lot to do with the former Barca boss Pep Guardiola who has now taken charge of the German champions, but he may be wishing he hadn’t bothered, as his relationship with his former club seems to be disintegrating rapidly.

Thiago will leave Barcelona but for Bayern not Man United 0

Posted on July 11, 2013 by admin

For a few weeks now Barcelona have been steeling themselves for the departure of the talented young midfielder Thiago Alcantara. Because of his lack of games in La Liga last season, his release clause was a paltry 18 million euros, and the new manager at Manchester United, David Moyes, was very keen to take advantage.

United had offered the value of the release clause and spoken to Thiago, offering him attractive wages and promising him regular football. The only thing holding up the move, apparently, was Tito Vilanova and the staff and players at Barcelona trying to persuade the graduate from La Masia to stay at the Nou Camp because he was on the verge of starring regularly.

How Guardiola and Neymar’s father caused problems for Barcelona transfer 0

It seemed, for outsiders looking on, that the transfer of Neymar to FC Barcelona this summer went off pretty easily, without any complications or any of the usual haggling and posturing you normally see in transfer dealings, especially when they involve top players and top clubs.
