Barcelona are now exactly halfway through the Primera liga season. They faced a tough away trip to Fifth placed Malaga yesterday, but even if they lost it would have been a record equalling first half of the season. This is Barca, however, and they did not lose, they won, so they have a new record of 55 points from a possible 57. The win also matches another record of 10 away victories in a row.
Real Madrid are an amazing 18 points behind the runaway leaders in third, and Athletico Madrid are still 11 points behind in second place. Lionel Messi scored for the ninth league game in a row, so is one scoring game away from matching the record set by Ronaldo (the other one) in 1997.
Malaga played well and were resisting Barcelona until one mistake fell to the worst player possible. Messi latched on to a back pass, and he does not miss those sort of opportunities. Barca were in great form but had bot managed to break down a resilient Malaga until then.
Messi turned provider at the start of the second half with a sublime ball straight into the path of Fabregas who finished crisply in the corner. Thiago continued his excellent progress with another powerful shot to make it three and game over.
Valdes could do nothing about the consolation goal scored by Buonanotte right at the end. It was an excellent free kick which the keeper hardly saw. watch highlights of the game below.
