With most of the current stars, like Messi, Iniesta and Xavi, having come through the youth system at FC Barcelona, the Club has every right to be proud of the academy at La Masia, but there have been a few cases of players slipping through the fingers and then going on to star for another club. The most obvious example is Cesc Fabregas, who joined Arsenal as a 16-year old and was extremely hard to get away from the Premier League club afterwards.
Well it looks like the boot could be on the other foot, according to the Daily Mail. One of the big stories in English football last weekend was the spectacular debut of 18-year old Adnan Januzaj. His two fantastic goals rescued Manchester United from further trouble after they went behind to bottom placed Sunderland. The kid looks a fantastic prospect.
The problem for United, however, is that his contract runs out in the summer. They are trying to get him to sign a lucrative new deal, but his agent has revealed that a number of clubs around Europe are keen and it seems like one of them is Barcelona. With our fantastic team, stadium and record of producing world class players, no club wants to be fighting Barca for a player. Watch this space!!
