Barcelona star Messi wants to help Celtic in Champions league!

Posted on December 03, 2012 by admin

Everyone connected with Glasgow Celtic will be supporting two teams on Wednesday night. The Scottish champions are hoping that Barcelona can do them a favour, as they need to better the result of the Portuguese side Benfica in order to progress to the next round. The teams are even on points, but Benfica have a better head to head record.

Benfica visit the Nou camp on Wednesday, while Celtic host the Russians Spartak Moscow. Moscow will definitely finish bottom of the group, have sacked their manager and lost their last two home games in the Russian league. Celtic beat them in Moscow as well, so will be confident of getting a result, but know that it will mean nothing if Benfica win.

With Barca guaranteed top spot in the group, Celtic will worry that a second string side will play and the team will not try too hard, but they can stop worrying, because Lionel Messi will come to the rescue. The little flea was so impressed with the the Celtic fans that he thinks they deserve to stay in the competition. If there is one player the Celtic fans would like to be trying their hardest against Benfica, it would be the Argentinian goal machine himself.

“The Celtic fans deserve to be in Europe. They have been amazing in both games we have played against them recently.

“We knew what they were going to be like in Glasgow, but the way they were in Barcelona after they had just lost in the way they did was amazing.

“I have never seen anything like that before.”

Celtic have another reason to rest easy. If Messi had scored two more goals at the weekend, he would have beaten Gerd Muller’s record of 85 goals in a calendar year, set in 1972. As it is, he still needs a goal to equal the German’s tally. Tito Vilanova has stated that Messi does not care about the record, but do not believe that for a second. The only reason he did not play in the cup last weekend was that it is traditional for the reserves to get their chance during those games, and Messi did not want to deny them.

With Messi leading the line, and some of the second string players desperate to prove their worth, Barca should have more than enough talent on show to beat Benfica. If you fancy having a bet on Barcelona and Celtic then you should remember to take advantage of the bet365 free bet…….
