It seems as though Barcelona are on the verge of finally capturing the replacement for current keeper Victor Valdes. The Ctalan club have given Valdes every chance to change his mind about leaving when his contract expires at the end of the season, but he has been open and honest and is set on moving on.
So Barcelona executives have pressed on and, according to sources in Spain and Germany, are almost ready to complete the purchase of young German stopper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen from Bundesliga club Borussia Monchengladbach. The 21-year old has already played more than 100 games for his club and they did not want to lose him, but he told them he would not be signing an extension. So with his current deal set to run out in 2015, his club have decided to sell and the price could be as low as 10 million euros.
It is still unlikely that Ter Stegen will be playing for Barca this season and will probably finish the season with Borussia, but the deal will be done for him to join in the summer and that will take a lot of pressure off the Barca scouts for the rest of the season. It will probably take the youngster some time to reach the levels of Valdes and we will miss the veteran’s experience, but Ter Stegen has huge potential and will learn quickly.
