Tomorrow Tito Vilanova takes his Barcelona team to the Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid for the second leg of the Spanish Supercup. It is not the most important trophy, but both clubs would love to lift the trophy tomorrow. It will give confidence to the players and bragging rights to the fans.
Barcelona have a slight advantage going in to the match after a 3-2 victory in the first leg. To ba honest it should have been bigger. Barca enjoyed nearly 80 percent possession and missed a fair few chances. They also gifted Madrid the second goal after Victor Valdes made a goalkeeping howler.
Barca captain Carlos Puyol has got a broken cheekbone but is desperate to play and is being fitted with a mask. Pepe should return for Madrid after he missed the weekend’s La Liga match with concussion sustained in a clash with Iker Casillas in Madrid’s opening league game.
Barcelona should be the more confident side after beating Madrid in the first leg and winning both their league games. Madrid, on the other hand, have only managed a single point from the first two league matches. Barcelona’s players and coach know, however, that a wounded Madrid is a dangerous animal. Jose Mourinho will now be desperate to win and will fire up all of his players. We may see a return to last season with a bad tempered and violent encounter.
