Pep Guardiola went on the attack yesterday, playing three at the back and Messi, Alexis and Pedro up front. The plan worked as Getafe were unable to cope with Barcelona at all. The 4-0 scoreline did not flatter the Catalans one bit and the only sour note was a booking for Leo Messi.
Alexis, who was excellent throughout, scored the first after 13 minutes with a crisp strike that gave the keeper no chance. Messi scored the best goal of the game after 44 minutes. His driving run and exquisite exchange of passes with Iniesta was completed with a thunderbolt from the left foot of the brilliant argentinian. Cuenca provided a great cross from the right for Alexis to head his second of the game, and Pedro finished the scoring with a looping header from Messi`s free kick.
Guardiola had told his players after the last game to “run more and smile less.” They certainly ran and all the smiles were on the faces of the fans. After the match, Pep dedicated the victory to Abidal and refused to be drawn on the chances of catching Madrid. “The most important thing is to concentrate on the job at hand.”
The next game for Barca is away to Levante on saturday. Levante are currently 5th in la liga and are only two points behind 3rd placed Malaga. “Levante is always a difficult place to play,” stated Guardiola.
Sergio Busquets epitomises the calm shown by Barcelona over the last few months and says, “we think game by game…Madrid are in the privileged position, they are the leaders.” He showed no lack of confidence however, stating “I feel good physically, the team is good. We carry a positive dynamic.”
Real Madrid have been showing cracks recently and face a tough local derby tonight. If Athletico do Barca a favour tonight and they start the Classico only one point behind Madrid then it would be a brave man who bets against Barcelona retaining theit title
